Mathematician Joke
An engineer, a physicist, and a mathematician all work in the same
office building. One day, the trashcan in the engineer's cubicle
catches on fire. He immediately grabs a bucket, fills it with
water from a sink, and pours it on the fire, putting it out. He
then continues working. In the next cubicle, the physicist's
trashcan catches on fire. Using his estimation of the size of the
fire, he calculates the exact amount of water needed to put it out.
He fills the bucket with that exact amount and pours it on the
fire, putting it out. Down the hall, in the mathematician's
cubicle, the trashcan catches on fire. Using his estimation of the
size of the fire, he calculates the exact amount of water needed to
put it out. Then he goes on to the next problem.
