On May 27, 1997,
I graduated from Lake Brantley High School in Altamonte
Springs, FL.
I am majoring in mechanical engineering at Carnegie Mellon
University. I've always loved taking things apart and attempting to put them back
together (usually without much luck). With an engineering degree, I can attempt to put
things together and get paid for it, too!
My favorite subject in high school
was physics. It makes so much sense and explains a lot of things about life (like,
it's really fun to shine lasers in people's eyes. --do not try this at home, kids).
And, percent error on labs is really small! (Compared to chemistry (sorry, Janet and Mrs.
Abbott), where we ranged from 70% to 2000% error; physics error was infintesimal -
nothing higer than 15% error!) Not to mention that there are so many cool toys to play
with - suction cup dart guns, lenses, mirrors (concave :) ), tuning forks, hand-
held crank generators, the aforementioned lasers, frictionless air tracks, ...
I also enjoy math, especially when used in physics (not just for math's sake). When I first used an integral in an electronics lab, I was ecstatic at the fact that it worked.
At Lake Brantley, I was in band and chorus (see music), Mu Alpha Theta (math club), Psi Eta (science honorary), Epsilon Nu Gamma (English honorary), Brain Bowl, Beta Club and National Honor Society.
Lake Brantley is on block scheduling.
