[Music]

[piano icon]

I have played piano since 1986. I prefer accompanying to solo piano work. I accompanied my high school chorus and instrumental and vocal solos performed by my friends.

I had a desire to play the[trumpet icon]trumpet from the time I knew what one was, and started taking lessons in 1991. I was in high school marching and concert bands. I was a section leader in the marching band, and I was the only female trumpeter in Brantley's top concert band, the wind ensemble. Being in this section sure does make life interesting - what with JimBo and Jason (and don't forget Dave) having fun during rehearsal with Toy Story figures from Burger King.

Now I'm one of three females in the trumpet section of the Kiltie Marching Band at Carnegie Mellon University

Wynton Marsalis is awesome!

[treble clef icon]I also sing. Soprano, Alto, or Tenor, depending on what the choir needs. I'm really a soprano (so my church choir director/voice teacher says), but I can read, so I'm helpful in the alto section.

At CMU, I'm a soprano in the Christian a cappella group, Joyful Noise.

I prefer to listen to classical music (Chopin and Mozart are my favorite composers), but occasionally I'll tune into a country station, and I will listen to anything else if I'm with friends who prefer it (except rap and heavy metal).

I am a member of the ACME All-American Alumni Marching Band. (This group used to be the Worlds' Worst Marching Band, but no one took us seriously enough because of the name. With the new name came tightening of the rules.) We are a slightly relaxed group made mostly of "alumni," people who played an instrument in high school who want to play again in a fun group. My best buddy, Greg, and I always march together at parades. Our first gig was to march in the Citrus Bowl Parade, Saturday, Dec. 28. We also marched in the Winter Park St.Patrick's Day parade and won the trophy for "Most Entertaining."

Unfortunately, due to my absence from Florida for my continued education, I have not been able to do much with the group. I did, however, go to Atlanta for the July 4 parade in 1998!

My family and I have also discovered folk music of the Appalachians and the British Isles. We visited an instrument making shop in North Carolina and fell in love with the psalteries and dulcimers.
